Carey was once a popular fashion model. She is 5'10" tall and was very sought-after by the high-end American designers such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, etc. Her father was the world-renowned geologist, who was in 1979 named Scientist of the Year by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey was a frequent traveler because of her father's work. Modeling began part time during her time at college at University of Colorado and caught the attention of an agent of the Ford model Agency in New York. After moving to France in the summer of 1999, where she lived at Paris, Bordeaux and New York She decided to return home to New York and continue her education. In the next few months, Vogue, Glamour and various other magazines were featured on their cover. While she was modeling, she was also a full-time student, completing a master's degree of literature from New York University. As she studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her enthusiasm for acting increased. She made her acting debut with a small role in 'Club Paradise which aired in 1986 alongside Robin Williams. In her spare time, she enjoys in wind surfing, skiing and rock climbing. She also enjoys white water rafting.
